OPR100

For the serious carver or collector.

This is the most singular piece of white-base Australian opal i have ever owned (the base color is pleasant, not near so yellow as in these images). Very large, 25.6 grams ... 42x 37.5x 9.6 mm ... this is a big hunk of beautiful opal rough! I have kept it for several years now and it is time to let go.
This is ROUGH! I have rubbed it - though as shown it has countless surface scratches, some as coarse as 360 grit - there are NO cracks. Properly polished, brilliance should near double- and you could see the great color below the surface.
Simply spectacular patterns, quite unique in my experience. Circular patterns of very brilliant fire, in excellent patterns, that DO go on down into the rough - far more brilliant and intense than in these photos. What color do you want? It is here. A carver could well bring out the fire in all areas for it can be seen in the real down within the material... though i am not at all sure i would much touch it for it is unreal as is (cept for proper polish of course). Properly polished this is museum qality opal.
The other side - for a long time this was the only side i could see as the "bottom" was covered with a matrix. Yet, contrary to these images i was entralled by this side. The is much fire simmering richly just below the surface in very nice Harlequin-like patterns. I have no idea why i could not begin to capture the true fire here... tried many shots, none worked. Trust me, it IS here and is loverly.
All i can do is show you a couple of the fire areas very close-up. You can hopefully see the many colors better and the density of fire better. This is closer to how it REALLY looks-the dark patterns are a lovely Magenta or purple-blue, Not dark spots.
The preceeding 3 photos have a single corner marked as CR to show that the fire and patterns are great from all sides (i messed up the photo from one side- the fire is great from it also).
You opal lovers will now be utterly amazed to learn that this piece is over 130 carats! 42x 37.5x 9.6 mm! and the price is a low $1800.00.
